LG Windows Gaming Championship sees keen contest for top honors
Kuwait’s gaming community turned out in a large force this week as the LG Windows Gaming Championships kicked off its tri-nation hunt for the gaming superstar with the Kuwait round.

Before it heads off to Saudi Arabia and the UAE for the next rounds in the coming weeks, the tournament saw an overwhelming response from Kuwait’s gamers, with more than 130 people turning up at the Souq Sharq Mall well in advance.

The event, which teams global and regional digital leader LG Electronics with Windows Middle East magazine, was initially conducted in the UAE and now includes Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, in view of the large community of gamers in those countries.

In Kuwait, Abdullah Al Mashaan fought off the keen competition to emerge as the winner of Pro Evolution Soccer 6, while the team Gameworks Clan claimed victory in Counterstrike Source. The winners will next month head to Dubai, where they will take part in the ‘Final of Finals’ against winners from other participating countries and play for the title of best gamers as well as a cash prize of US$6000.

“The turnout here in Kuwait has been spectacular and we expect to see a similar if not better response at the other venues,” said Mr. C. H. Lee, President of LG Electronics Gulf FZE. “The quality and level of skill of the contestants have been beyond our expectations. I am confident that we are in for an exciting and thrilling final.”

Matthew Wade, Editor of Windows Middle East Magazine, commented, “It is great to see such excellent participation from enthusiastic gamers here in the Middle East. Based on the action we’ve seen here in Kuwait, the rest of the tournament looks set to really exceed all our expectations.”

The championship now heads to Riyadh where the KSA round will be held from May 31 to June 1 and later to Dubai from June 22 to 23. Contestants can choose to enter the ‘three to five-member team’ category playing the ever-popular Counterstrike Source, or as an individual to play the Pro Evolution Soccer 6. Keen gamers can also register for both games.

The UAE leg of the tournament will conclude with a regional ‘Final of Finals’, which will discover the best PC gamers in the Gulf, and the winner is entitled to a $6000 prize.
